Pardal Monteiro (1897-1957)
His friend artist and collaborator Almada Negreiros drew him with a big nose and very round glasses. Nowadays he would be mistaken for a hipster, and Pardal Monteiro was in fact the first modernist of Lisbon. Most lisboners barely notice passing by his works anymore, and many won’t even know that so many emblematic buildings in the city are the work of a single architect. Pardal Monteiro is the main responsible for modernism in Lisbon’s architecture and designed his most important works between the 1920s and the 1950s.
Experience the local experience of our Pardal Monteiro Route, which will introduce you to the city while also showing you some of Pardal Monteiro’s most emblematic works, such as the Cais do Sodré station.
